Spending more time at home is something we have all had to get used to, whether we like it or not. Indeed, most of us have probably enjoyed the extra respite and having the time to do more of the things we've always dreamt of doing. However, as with all things, it has come with some challenges. Not only can self-isolating feel more, well, isolating, but being housebound with family all the time can also have its drawbacks. For one, being around others 24/7 may feel stifling at times, which can cause extra unnecessary tension in a household where this could otherwise be prevented or avoided altogether. So, without further ado, here are some preventative measures you can put in place to help reduce stress in stressful situations.

Exercise is lovely!

Getting in the required amount of exercise daily really is lovely. Not only does it give you the space to get out of the house, but it also can refresh the mind. Furthermore, exercise can help release stress and tension and make you fitter and healthier overall.

Eat well

Eat well, and by this, we mean a healthy, balanced diet. It goes without saying that food plays a critical role in our general well-being. We may not be aware of it, but stress can wreak havoc on our bodies and result in negative physiological changes within the body that are harmful. It's all very ‘science-y,’ but eating a well-balanced diet can help negate the adverse effect of stress on our bodies by supplementing certain vitamins and minerals that we need to feel better.

Enjoy nature for a bit

If only for a bit, getting out in and into nature is the perfect remedy to feeling better almost instantly. Just feeling the warmth of the sun on your face and the wind at your back is enough to put a smile on your face, not to mention the other enormous benefits that being outside has on our physical and mental wellbeing

Find something fun to do

Now that we have more time on our hands, we might as well put it to good use. In addition to this, trying out a fun new hobby could be the distraction you need to keep your mind busy. Better yet, why not try doing something you've never done before. It is often when you decide to break out of your comfort zone that you grow. You could even discover hidden talents and abilities that you never knew you had!

Strive for a better work-life balance

No matter what you do for a living, work-life balance is critical to ensure a healthier, happier you. Having the right work-to-life balance means carving out time in the day to do the things that make you happy. According to Zenbusiness, for managers or leaders in business, striving for a better work-life balance is especially important to avoid burnout and other stress-related conditions. For example, if your job demands long hours, make sure you take the breaks you need to refresh and revitalize your mind and body. Another example would be if your responsibilities are particularly demanding, strive to put boundaries in place to ensure that work duties don't infringe on your private life.

Keep the faith!

Having a solid faith and attending church can also do wonders for stressful situations, no matter your denomination. Pastors may be able to provide you with faith-based advice on how best to approach and handle your situation. Plus, you get to connect with other people outside of your immediate household. They, too, can often give you the support and guidance you need to endure a difficult situation.

Getting over tough times

Perhaps one of the best antidotes to feeling happier and calmer is choosing positivity over negativity. And realizing that while we all may experience stressful situations like these, we don't have to let it get the better of us. Moreover, we can choose to get over it and be an overcomer!
