Did You Know?

As of the last Point In Time Count for Sacramento County, published in 2014, there were over 300 homeless youth discovered on our streets?  And did you also know that 40% of that number identify as LGBTQ? Not to mention, many of those kids are people of color, further increasing the risks to their health and personal safety?

On Tuesday, June 13th, many of us here at First Church were struck by the stories of LGBTQ youth associated with the Q-Spot, a center for youth located at the LGBTQ Community Center.  We heard about the awful situations for many kids who were facing lack of acceptance, homelessness and volatile/dangerous living situations. These are children and young adults, facing the unimaginable.  It is not right.  Something must be done.

Here’s how YOU can help:

Make and online donation to Q Spot, which is a vital program offered at the LGBTQ Community Center which provides support for LGBTQ and homeless youth. Log on to and you can make either a one-time donation or a monthly contribution.

The Q-Spot is in desperate need of various items such as: socks, sunscreen, underwear, tarps, sleeping bags, tents, bug spray, towels and deodorant. You can drop by the LGBTQ Community Center at 1927 L Street or feel free to leave your donations with Jen in the church office.

This is a great way to get out there and do some serious good!
