Welcome to the website of First United Methodist Church of Sacramento. We are a congregation of real people, living real lives in the real world, and supporting one another in a community where we are always learning what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.
“First Church” is one of the historic faith communities in Sacramento. It was established with the Gold Rush, in 1849, and has been continuously active since then. Our church buildings are old, large, and majestic. They are filled, all week long, with worship, programs, classes, small groups, and service opportunities for about 500 current members and plenty of space for everyone who would like to join us. We are young and old, liberal and conservative, faithful and searching. The motto of the United Methodist Church is “Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors.” This particular church thinks of itself as “A Welcoming Church in Midtown.” This is a church where all people are welcome, just as they are. If you are looking for a place to live out your Christian faith in community, or just to explore it; if you are looking for a worship experience that offers traditional ritual and music with a contemporary and relevant message; if you are looking for sermons that speak to both the intellect and the heart; if you are looking for people who are as comfortable with questions as they are with answers; if you are looking for a community of people who enjoy being together and making a difference in the world—this may be the place for you. I hope you’ll visit us, on the rest of this website and in person. Join us for worship on any Sunday! Kathi McShane Pastor "I believe a church isn't a building." |
