Children’s Ministries
Children join us in the Sanctuary for the beginning of worship. After “Children’s Time”, they are invited to Sunday School in age-level classes. We currently use a rotational model in which children experience a Bible lesson over a period of a few weeks. Each week they rotate to a different method of learning through storytelling, music, drama, arts, cooking, computers, games, etc. This engages children in various ways while encouraging participation.
Youth
Welcome all Junior and Senior High Youth! Youth groups meet on the first and third Sundays of each month from noon to 2:00 p.m. On the second and fourth Sundays of the month, youth are invited to Sunday School in age-level classes. Our faith-based discussions are thought-provoking and relevant to current day youth issues. An important part of our youth program is to provide community service in a variety of settings. There’s fun too, with music and community building activities.
Second Saturday in Midtown
Midtown Sacramento is a buzz every Second Saturday of the month. The J and 21st Street neighborhood is filled with art, great food, and interesting programs. First Church is also part of this neighborhood event by hosting a variety of activities from special movies
and discussions to a musical venue of great local music performed in our courtyard.
Drop by and see what’s “playing”!
March 10 - yHomeless? - a film by Glen Dunzweiler about his journey through homelessness.
Searching for Faith Partners?
Not Finished Yet - For Men
Share your faith journey with others! This small group experience focuses on sharing and Bible study. There is no homework and is open to men of all ages. Leadership is passed around and does not require any expertise. This kind of experience is at the heart of Christian fellowship and enrichment. New groups form as existing groups grow. Contact Pastor Don if you have interest in being in a Not Yet Finished group.
Not Finished Yet - For Women
This faith sharing group for women invites you to be a part of their journey. This group focuses on sharing and Bible study. There is no homework and the group is open to women of all ages. Leadership is passed around and does not require any special training. This kind of experience is at the heart of Christian fellowship and enrichment. New groups form as existing groups grow. You can join the current group which meets at 5:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month in the church library.
In The News
Rip a story from the headlines, throw in some Scripture, mix with a professionally developed lesson plan, and add a dash of stimulating congregants – what do you get? Why, “In The News,” of course. We meet at 9:15 a.m. most Sundays in the Library where we explore current events and how we might respond to them as Christians. Each class has a different topic and no advance preparation is needed. Come every week or drop in from time to time. The coordinator is Burt Peterson.
Member Inquiry Workshop
If you have been considering becoming a member of First United Methodist Church, then this workshop is for you! In two sessions, we will explore what it means to be United Methodist, how the church operates, the church’s core values, how the local church is organized and functions, and how you can be a part of it all.
The Member Inquiry Workshop will be held on two Sundays – March 18th and 25th at noon in the library. All materials will be provided.
Second Sunday Luncheon
After worship on the second Sunday of each month, join together for a salad pot-luck luncheon and presentations of importance to the church. The presentations will include significant issues facing the church, community or the world at large, Leadership Team engagement, or other important subjects. The Second Sunday Luncheon will be held in the Terrace Room. Bring a salad to share; drinks will be provided. We will be together from noon to 1:30 pm.
- March 11 - Kairos - It’s Time, Pastor Don
- April 8 - Senior Easter Luncheon
Sabeel Conference: A Time for Justice - Supporting Human Rights in Palestine-Israel - A Conference for Peacemakers
Friday and Saturday, March 16 & 17
This conference will provide educational and networking opportunities for organizations, churches, and individuals advocating a just peace for all the people of Palestine and Israel.
Sabeel is an ecumenical Palestinian-led grassroots movement. As such, we are engaging with a host of Christian denominations, as well as Jewish, Muslim, and secular organizations, while seeking co-sponsorship and participation in the conference. This two-day event will feature nationally and internationally known lecturers, writers, and activists both religious and secular. We are encouraging the participation of opinion makers, community leaders, religious leaders, journalists, activists, and others who wish to learn from experts on the issue. The advocacy work of Christian denominations will be highlighted and both the novice and those more familiar with the issue will be inspired by the outstanding speakers and the workshops.
Community Breakfast
The last two Sundays of each month
Cook, serve and share breakfast with our homeless neighbors. Adults, youth and children can all partipate: join a team in the kitchen preparing pancakes and eggs; help serve our guests; bring a breakfast item from home or simply provide fellowship by joining our guests for breakfast.
If you'd like to help, join us 8 a.m. in the Terrace Room on the last two Sundays of the month.
