Opportunities to Serve through Leadership

  • Church Council coordinates all areas of church program, determines budget and plans for the future.  Members elected annually. Meets every other month.

The first four (4) committees listed below are the “administrative” committees, whose members are elected by the Church Conference or Church Council.

  • Board of Trustees is the church’s legally constituted Board of Directors under California law; executes all legal contracts on behalf of the church, and is responsible for maintenance and care of church facilities, equipment, furnishings and grounds. Nine (9) members, elected for three-year terms in classes of three. Meets monthly to quarterly.
  • Staff-Parish Relations Committee is the church’s personnel committee, responsible for all staff positions, personnel, salaries and support. Nine (9) members elected for three-year terms in classes of three. Meets monthly.
  • Finance Committee is responsible for coordinating overall financial program, monitoring all income and expenses, and prepares and administers budget set by Church Council. Members elected annually. Meets monthly.
  • Nominating Committee consists of nine (9) persons, elected from the floor at the Church Conference in 3-year classes. Meets as needed.

The following “program committees” are not restricted to church members, but welcomes anyone who wishes to be involved; they can recruit and accept members at any time of the year.

  • Membership Care and Growth Committee reaches out to visitors and new persons in our church, for orientation and support of new members, and for the care of the total church family through a network of fellowship and emergency assistance programs.
  • Children’s Education plans, coordinates, and supports the children’s Sunday School and related programs through teacher recruitment and support, selection and acquisition of curriculum and other materials, and logistical support.
  • Adult Education plans, coordinates, and supports adult education in the same manner as the Children’s Education Committee (above).
  • Youth Council coordinates all youth programs, and is the link between youth groups/activities and the support of the congregation.
  • Neighbors at Home and Afar is responsible for outreach to the community and our world. Local organizations supported include Francis House, Central Downtown Food Closet, aids Interfaith Service Bureau, Habitat for Humanity, Heifer Project International, and United Methodist Missionary programs at home and abroad connect the people and resources of the church with the needs of the wider community.
  • Worship Committee helps plan and coordinate worship services, ushers, greeters, special programs, and the total church’s involvement in worship.
  • Stewardship Committee works closely with the Finance Committee in determining the financial needs and resources of the church, planning the pledge campaigns and special giving programs and appeals.
