Sunday Morning Adult Education

The adult education class meets at 9:15 a.m. each Sunday in the Church Library. This class consists of 10-20 interested and interesting people meeting in the Church Library to discuss an item from the previous week’s news headlines, and to reflect on it theologically. Our United Methodist tradition encourages us to use four sources for thinking about what God might be saying to us as new issues arise in the world and in our lives: Scripture, Tradition, Reason and Experience. Each week, we try to apply all four of these resources to our interpretation and ethical response to current events.

We use a curriculum called The Wired Word to start and guide the discussion. We also reflect on Biblical passages that pertain to the story and that invite our own thoughtful responses. You are welcome to come on any Sunday morning, and you do not need to have read anything in advance.

Classes and Small Groups for Adults

A variety of classes, small groups and Bible studies for adults are offered at First UMC -- some are short-term while others are offered on an ongoing basis.  In addition, find out more about our new small groups and ongoing offerings.
